Local marching bands, the University of Houston Spirit of Houston Cougar Marching BandAustin High School SONIC BOOM and Milby High School Marching Thunder, ignite a spectacle of big sound, curated and choreographed by Allison Orr of Folklift Danceworks in collaboration with local choreographers via Dance Houston.

From September – November, 2014, Transported + Renewed, a major creative placemaking project, will celebrate the centennial of the Port of Houston and the inauguration of the Houston METRO East End Light Rail Line by presenting a bold mix of community-based and contemporary art projects in the city’s historic East End. Creative placemaking projects help transform communities into lively, beautiful and sustainable places with the arts at their core.

The theme of Transported + Renewed draws on Houstonians’ playful and artful obsession with “keeping things moving” and living in an ever-changing and transforming urban landscape. The East End is the perfect part of the city to celebrate the fascination our citizens have with all forms of transport – tugs, ships, railroads, bicycles, art cars, trail rides, low riders, dragon boats, SLABs, food trucks and more – precisely because it is the city’s transport hub.
