Coming up in Spring 2018

Installation view of Reguarding Room exhibition of miniature artworks at Occidental College, 2015.

CamLab brings its ongoing Reguarding Room project to University of Houston. The collaborative duo will hold workshops across campus where participants remake feminist works of art from history about rape and sexual assault, in miniature. The resulting artworks will be shown in a to-scale gallery exhibition space. Each workshop consists of a research period to find relevant works of art, conversation about how to most effectively reproduce them, and time for crafting with materials as varied as air-drying clay, paint, needle & thread, or scaled-down canvases. This experimental and horizontal strategy of bringing people together to discuss rape and sexual assault while engaged in a hands-on activity allows for non-confrontational expression around the topic, without being tied to any one individual’s narrative.
