Poetry and Prose in the Shelter is a student initiated program that, in association with Inprint, will pilot writing workshops at community organizations that serve Houston’s homeless community. Three community sites have been identified to host 6- to 10-week workshops in fall 2017, with the aim to continue the program in Spring 2018. Participants will meet on a weekly basis for one- to two-hour sessions led by graduate students at the University of Houston Creative Writing Program. With permission of the participants, material generated in the workshops will be collected in anthologies, presented in readings, and serve as the inspiration for a series of graphic broadsides.
