February 16 – August 11, 2018

Felix Kalmenson, Atlas, 2017

The future is certain begins an old Soviet joke: “It’s the past which is unpredictable.” The exhibition of the same name curated by Lithuanian independent curator Monika Lipšic with Toby Kamps, Jane Dale Owen Director and Chief Curator of the Blaffer Art Museum, brings together a dozen artists and collectives that consider the ways history can—in the hands of totalitarian regimes and others engaged with myth-making—become a malleable material. It features recent sculptures, photographs, textiles, video works, and installations that investigate the ways that history is flexible and can be reinterpreted to influence the present.

The exhibition will be closed from March 25 – May 24.
