Raphael Rubinstein will read selections from his book "In Search of the Miraculous: 50 Episodes from the Annals of Contemporary Art"  in the Dudley Recital Hall, Fine Arts Building

Raphael Rubinstein has been writing about contemporary art since 1986, mostly for Art in America, where he is a Senior Editor. He is the author of Polychrome Profusion: Selected Art Criticism 1990-2002 and co-author of monographs on Norman Bluhm and Claude Viallat. Peintures Croisées, a selection of his writings on art in French translation, was published in 1997. He has contributed essays to exhibition catalogues for the Houston Museum of Fine Art, the Fondation Cartier, the Art Gallery of Ontario and the Musée d’Orsay, among other institutions, and has curated exhibitions at P.S. 1, Apex Art and Galerie Filles du Calvaire.
His most recent book, translated into French by Marcel Cohen, is En Quete de Miracle: Cinquante épisodes extraits des annales de l’art contemporain. Other books include his translation of Cohen’s In Search of a Lost Ladino: Letter to Antonio Saura and a forthcoming anthology titled Critical Mess: Art Critics on the State of their Practice.
Rubinstein is also the author of a collection of poems, The Basement of the Cafe Rilke, and a book of autobiographical prose, Postcards from Alphaville, both published by Hard Press Editions. A new collection of poems is forthcoming from Make Now Press. His poetry has appeared in many publications, including Grand Street, American Poetry Review and The Oulipo Compendium.
In 2002, the French government presented him with the award of Chevalier dans l’Order des Arts et des Lettres.
