OPEN STUDIO
To Whom It May Concern, Emily Sloan
Friday November 21
6:30 pm (6:00pm Artist Talk)
To Whom it May Concern compiles Sloan’s collection of words, phrases, materials and debris addressing both personal notes and public notices in a site specific installation. This time, the site is an open lot on the 4900 block of Main Street next to Lawndale Art Center in Houston, Texas.

Recipient of the University of Houston Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center for the Arts Studio Residency, Emily Sloan has been working in a studio at the Lawndale Art Center, overlooking this particular lot. The lot is an urban landscape divided into distinctive sections from remnants of building foundations, to wild weeds & grass patches, street curb and concrete rubble. Sloan’s scripts the site with words and phrases inspired or quoted from found notes, letters and scribbles. While some of the text is applied in Edwardian script, other sections are similar to that stamped by a typewriter, or even hand written. The piece can either be experienced by walking around the lot or viewed from a distance.
