"Damaged Romanticism" All-Star Concert
MUSIC PERFORMANCE
Damaged Romanticism
Saturday November 8
8:00 pm (7:00 pm - Pre-concert Conversation with Terrie Sultan, Director of The Parish Art Museum and Co-Curator of Damaged Romanticism: A Mirror of Modern Emotion, and Sarah Rothenberg, pianist and artistic director of Da Camera of Houston)

Image: cellist Sonia Wieder-Atherton

An all-star concert evocative of some of the most powerful art created in recent years that reveals a shift away from cool modernism towards a new aesthetic; emotion is put front and center, often in response to world events. The concert joins musicians from Holland, France, New York and Houston, and incorporates projections of paintings and photographs to create acompelling dialogue between music and visual art.

The concert will include:
Stephen Hartke - Beyond Words, Ricercare for violin, viola, cello and piano
Wolfgang Rihm - Von weit for cello and piano
Karim Al-Zand - Lamentation on The Disasters of War (after etchings by Francisco de Goya)
Schnittke - String Trio
Schubert - Movement for piano trio in E-flat Major, D. 897, “Notturno”

Vera Beths, violin; Kyung-Sun Lee, violin; Hsin-Yun Huang, viola; Ivo van der Werff, viola; Norman Fischer, cello; Sonia Wieder-Atherton, cello; Timothy Hester, piano; Sarah Rothenberg, piano

Presented in conjunction with the Blaffer Gallery exhibition "Damaged Romanticism: A Mirror of Modern Emotion," which surveys a strand of contemporary art that puts emotions front and center, built on the knowledge that rebirth grows out of experiences of things gone horribly wrong.

Location: Moores Opera House, University of Houston (Entrance 16 off Cullen Blvd;
plenty of reserved parking in Lot 16C)
Tickets and Information: Please contact Da Camera of Houston at 713-524-5050
