Death of a Salesman With Original Live Score Friday, March 30, 8:00 PM Opening Night Premier
The UH School of Theatre, in collaboration with the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center for the Arts at UH, will recreate Miller’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play, while adding an original music score that will be performed live on stage. Sidney Berger, director of the UH School of Theatre, is directing the play, and Marcus K. Maroney, director of UH’s AURA Contemporary Ensemble for the 2006 – 2007 season, composed the score.
"There’s a way of doing this play that has not been touched on until now," Berger said. Death of a Salesman follows the tragic story of Willy Loman (played by Equity guest artist J.T. Waite), whose failed quest for the American Dream has alienated him from friends and family and distorted his view of reality.
"The music will bring out what’s going on in this character’s head," Maroney said. Musicians performing during Death of a Salesman will include conductor and celesta player Maroney, flutist Melanie Lancon, bassoonist Michael Muna, harpist Sadie Turner and double bassist Scott Dixon.
