EXHIBITION Texas Oil: Landscape of an Industry, The Center for Land Use Interpretation January 17 - March 29
|
In Spring 2009, the Mitchell Center and Blaffer Gallery will present an exhibition by the Center for Land Use Interpretation (CLUI), Texas Oil: Landscape of an Industry, on view from January 17 to March 28. Texas Oil will serve as the culmination of CLUI’s year-long residency with the Mitchell Center.
Texas Oil will include up to 50 Texas sites that CLUI has identified as discrete anecdotes in the overarching story of how oil has sculpted the state’s terrain. The exhibition will be organized according to the oil industry’s “upstream” and “downstream” functions, phases of production before and after the refining process. “Upstream” will display oil fields, off-shore oil pipelines (crude oil and natural gas), terminals, tankers, and crude storage. “Downstream” will feature refineries, petrochemical plants, and distribution (finished product, pipelines, storage, and shipping.)
Blaffer Gallery and the Mitchell Center will also co-publish a fully-illustrated exhibition catalogue that will document the methodology and discoveries of the Center for Land Use Interpretation during their residency on Buffalo Bayou.
Location: Blaffer Gallery, 120 Fine Arts Building University of Houston (Entrance 16 off Cullen Blvd; free parking in Lot 16) FREE ADMISSION Information: 713-743-9521 |
