IART 3395: Selected Topics in Interdisciplinary Arts / 3 Cr. “From Avant Garde Cinema to Video Art”
Description: This course is an overview of American moving image art, beginning with the New American Cinema movement of the 1960s—which rejected censorship and embraced low-budget personal cinema--and the origins of video art and video installations, that continues to be at the forefront of artistic production. Focusing on the social climate of the last 50 years, this course will bring to the fore the genealogy, motivations, and structures of these two parallel art forms by highlighting seminal artists and works, and finally connecting experimental movies to the contemporary explosion of online video sharing.
Prerequisite: IART 3300, or consent of the instructor. Course may be repeated for credit when topics vary. Selected topics in interdisciplinary arts. Instructor: Andrea Grover Time: M 5:00 - 8:00 pm Room: FA 110 (Lecture) |
