The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center for the Arts is an alliance among the five arts units within the University of Houston's College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences including the School of Art; Blaffer Gallery, the Art Museum of the University of Houston; the Creative Writing Program; the Moores School of Music; and the School of Theatre. The result of this alliance will give UH students and the citizens of Houston unique, world-class opportunities to explore the intersections between the literary, visual, and performing arts. The Mitchell Center for the Arts will also offer writers and artists an opportunity to undertake collaborative projects that explore new directions for their creative works. Dr. Sidney Berger, Director of the UH School of Theatre, will serve as the Center’s first Executive Director.

Beginning in Spring 2005, the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center for the Arts will host world-class artists, writers, and scholars to instruct the next generation of artists and performers through collaborative courses, public performances, symposia, lectures, concerts, and exhibitions. The Center will also offer residencies to emerging artists, writers, and curators to expand their work through post-graduate studies in the arts, and will also establish new outreach programs.
